It is almost entirely preventable by controlled irradiation of blood products to inactivate the white blood cells (including lymphocytes) within. [26] Thymus transplantation [ edit ] Thymus transplantation may be said to be able to cause a special type of GvHD because the recipient's thymocytes would use the donor thymus cells as models when going through the negative selection to recognize self-antigens, and could therefore still mistake own structures in the rest of the body for being non-self.

[1] The susceptibility of divers and animals to HPNS varies over a wide range depending on the individual, but has little variation between different dives by the same diver. Those suggest that helium might cause substantial lipid membrane distortion. ... The effect of chemotherapy or radiation is variable and in a mouse model, with results consistent with observations in humans, cyclophosphamide can result in an 87% reduction in primordial follicles 72 hours after administration. [14] Women who have had a hysterectomy tend to go through menopause early and have a nearly twofold increased risk of POI. [14] Almost any pelvic surgery has the potential to damage the ovary by affecting its blood supply or causing inflammation in the area resulting in POI. [14] Mechanism [ edit ] The pathogenic mechanisms of POI are highly heterogeneous and can be divided into four major categories: follicular migration defect early in embryogenesis; an early decrease in the primordial follicles; increased follicular death; and altered maturation or recruitment of primordial follicles. [14] These result in a decrease of the ovaries general supply of eggs that normally lasts until an average age of 51 for age of age-appropriate menopause . [18] Genetic causes such as Turner syndrome have initial ovarian development but then ovaries degenerate rapidly during prenatal life, often leading to gonadal dysgenesis with streak ovaries.

Overview Primary ovarian insufficiency occurs when the ovaries stop functioning as they should before age 40. When this happens, your ovaries don't produce typical amounts of the hormone estrogen or release eggs regularly. This condition is also called premature ovarian failure and often leads to infertility. Primary ovarian insufficiency is sometimes confused with premature menopause, but these conditions aren't the same. Women with primary ovarian insufficiency can have irregular or occasional periods for years and might even get pregnant.

Health Care [ edit ] HIV/AIDS patients' medical treatment costs are covered by Taiwan's National Health Insurance (NHI) . [1] NHI Coverage [ edit ] In 2011, Taiwan's CDC was considering switching from providing HIV/AIDS treatment for free to a subsidized model. The cost of treatment for each AIDS patient in the country is estimated at NT$30,000 (US$930) per month, which is equivalent to the average monthly salary of an office worker. [23] In 2013, CDC Deputy Director Chuang Jen-hsiang (莊仁祥) said that the rise in the rate of HIV/AIDS cases was outstripping public funds, and that the NHI was NT$600 million (US$2 million) in debt due to treating HIV/AIDS patients.

Overview Hepatitis A is a highly contagious liver infection caused by the hepatitis A virus. The virus is one of several types of hepatitis viruses that cause liver inflammation and affect your liver's ability to function. You're most likely to get hepatitis A from contaminated food or water or from close contact with a person or object that's infected. Mild cases of hepatitis A don't require treatment. Most people who are infected recover completely with no permanent liver damage. Practicing good hygiene, including washing hands frequently, can prevent the spread of the virus.

Mantle cell lymphoma (MCL) belongs to a group of diseases known as non-Hodgkin’s lymphomas (NHL). NHL's are cancers that affect the the lymphatic system (part of the immune system). In MCL, there are cancerous B-cells (a type of immune system cell). The cancerous B-cells are within a region of the lymph node known as the mantle zone. Although MCLs are slow-growing cancers, the cancer is usually widespread by the time it is diagnosed. In these situations, treatment must be intensive since MCL can become life threatening within a short period of time.
  • Essential Tremor Wikipedia
Prognosis [ edit ] Although essential tremor is often mild, people with severe tremor have difficulty performing many of their routine activities of daily living. [39] [40] ET is generally progressive in most cases (sometimes rapidly, sometimes very slowly), and can be disabling in severe cases. [56] [57] [58] Epidemiology [ edit ] ET is one of the most common neurological diseases, with a prevalence around 4% in persons age 40 and older and considerably higher among persons in their 60s, 70s, 80s, with an estimated 20% of individuals in their 90s and over. [59] Aside from enhanced physiological tremor, it is the most common type of tremor and one of the most commonly observed movement disorders. [60] Society and culture [ edit ] Actress Katharine Hepburn (1907–2003) had an essential tremor, which she inherited from her grandfather, [61] that caused her head—and sometimes her hands—to shake. [62] [63] [64] The tremor was noticeable by the time of her performance in the 1979 film The Corn is Green , when critics mentioned the "palsy that kept her head trembling". [65] Hepburn's tremor worsened in her later life. [63] In 2010, musician Daryl Dragon of The Captain and Tennille was diagnosed with essential tremor, with the condition becoming so severe that Dragon was forced to retire from music. [ citation needed ] Director-writer-producer-comedian Adam McKay was diagnosed with essential tremor. [66] Downton Abbey Creator Julian Fellowes has the condition as does the character Charlie Carson [67] Research [ edit ] Harmaline is a widely used model of essential tremor (ET) in rodents. • Essential Tremor Mayo Clinic
Overview Essential tremor is a nervous system condition, also known as a neurological condition, that causes involuntary and rhythmic shaking. It can affect almost any part of the body, but the trembling occurs most often in the hands, especially when doing simple tasks, such as drinking from a glass or tying shoelaces. Essential tremor is usually not a dangerous condition, but it typically worsens over time and can be severe in some people. Other conditions don't cause essential tremor, although essential tremor is sometimes confused with Parkinson's disease. Essential tremor can occur at any age but is most common in people age 40 and older.

  • Zinc Deficiency Wikipedia
At this CO 2 level the zinc content of these crops was 3.3 to 9.3% lower than that of crops grown in the present atmosphere. A model of the nutritional impact of these lower zinc quantities on the populations of 151 countries predicts that an additional 175 million people could face dietary zinc deficiency as the result of increasing atmospheric CO 2 . [39] Inadequate absorption [ edit ] Acrodermatitis enteropathica is an inherited deficiency of the zinc carrier protein ZIP4 resulting in inadequate zinc absorption. [6] It presents as growth retardation, severe diarrhea, hair loss, skin rash (most often around the genitalia and mouth) and opportunistic candidiasis and bacterial infections. [6] Numerous small bowel diseases which cause destruction or malfunction of the gut mucosa enterocytes and generalized malabsorption are associated with zinc deficiency. [ citation needed ] Increased loss [ edit ] Exercising, high alcohol intake, and diarrhea all increase loss of zinc from the body. [5] [40] Changes in intestinal tract absorbability and permeability due, in part, to viral, protozoal, or bacteria pathogens may also encourage fecal losses of zinc. [41] Chronic disease [ edit ] The mechanism of zinc deficiency in some diseases has not been well defined; it may be multifactorial. ... PMID 13985937 . ^ Duggan C, Watkins JB, Walker WA (2008). One study may not be enough, especially in baldness, where there is a complex with age. • Alopecia, Androgenetic, 1 OMIM
Description Androgenetic alopecia is characterized by a loss of hair from the scalp that follows a defined pattern (Hamilton, 1951). It occurs in women as well as in men. It is caused by a shortening of the anagen (growth) phase and miniaturization of the hair follicle, which results in the formation of progressively thinner, shorter hair (Bergfeld, 1995). In men, the condition is often referred to as male pattern baldness (MPB) and appears to be androgen-dependent (Hamilton, 1942). The condition is hereditary, and follows a pattern that may be consistent with an autosomal dominant trait (Osborn, 1916). Linkage evidence for an autosomal locus on 3q26 (AGA1) has been identified (Hillmer et al., 2008).
    • Androgenetic Alopecia MedlinePlus
Androgenetic alopecia is a common form of hair loss in both men and women. In men, this condition is also known as male-pattern baldness. Hair is lost in a well-defined pattern, beginning above both temples. Over time, the hairline recedes to form a characteristic "M" shape. Hair also thins at the crown (near the top of the head), often progressing to partial or complete baldness. The pattern of hair loss in women differs from male-pattern baldness. In women, the hair becomes thinner all over the head, and the hairline does not recede.

    • Liver Cancer Mayo Clinic
Overview Liver cancer is cancer that begins in the cells of your liver. Your liver is a football-sized organ that sits in the upper right portion of your abdomen, beneath your diaphragm and above your stomach. Several types of cancer can form in the liver. The most common type of liver cancer is hepatocellular carcinoma, which begins in the main type of liver cell (hepatocyte). Other types of liver cancer, such as intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma and hepatoblastoma, are much less common. Cancer that spreads to the liver is more common than cancer that begins in the liver cells.

    • Papillary Renal Cell Carcinoma GARD
Papillary renal cell carcinoma (PRCC) is a type of cancer that occurs in the kidneys. It accounts for about 10-15% of all renal cell carcinomas. R enal cell carcinoma s are a type of kidney cancer that develop in the lining of very small tubes (tubules) in the kidney. The term "papillary" describes the finger-like projections that can be found in most of the tumors. PRCC can be divided into two types: type 1, which is more common and usually grows more slowly and type 2, which are usually more aggressive .Though the exact cause of papillary renal cell carcinoma is unknown, smoking, obesity, and genetic predisposition conditions (such as hereditary leiomyomatosis and renal cell cancer ) may contribute to the development of this type of cancer. Treatment often begins with surgery to remove as much of the cancer as possible, and may be followed by radiation therapy, chemotherapy, biological therapy, or targeted therapy .
    • Papillary Renal Cell Carcinoma Orphanet
Papillary renal cell carcinoma is a rare subtype of renal cell carcinoma, arising from the renal tubular epithelium and showing a papillary growth pattern, which typically manifests with hematuria, flank pain, palpable abdominal mass or nonspecific symptoms, such as fatigue, weight loss or fever. Symptoms related to metastatic spread, such as bone pain or persistent cough, are frequently associated since early diagnosis is not common. It is typically multifocal, bilateral, and in most cases sporadic, although different hereditary syndromes, such as Hereditary leiomyoma renal cell carcinoma, Birt-Hogg-Dubé syndrome and Tuberous sclerosis, may predispose to the development of papillary renal cell carcinoma.
