      Overview Hepatitis A is a highly contagious liver infection caused by the hepatitis A virus. The virus is one of several types of hepatitis viruses that cause liver inflammation and affect your liver's ability to function. You're most likely to get hepatitis A from contaminated food or water or from close contact with a person or object that's infected. Mild cases of hepatitis A don't require treatment. Most people who are infected recover completely with no permanent liver damage. Practicing good hygiene, including washing hands frequently, can prevent the spread of the virus.

(2009) conducted a metaanalysis of 2 glioma genomewide association studies by genotyping 550,000 tagged SNPs in a total of 1,878 cases and 3,670 controls, with validation in 3 additional independent series totaling 2,545 cases and 2,953 controls. The strongest association was achieved with the single-nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) rs4295627 (OR = 1.36, 95% CI 1.29-1.43, P = 2.34 x 10(-18)), which localizes to chromosome 8q24.21 in intron 3 of the CCDC26 gene (613040), a retinoic acid modulator of differentiation and death. In a 2-stage study using tag SNP genotyping and imputation, pooled next-generation sequencing using long-range PCR, and subsequent validation SNP genotyping and involving 1,657 cases and 1,301 controls, Jenkins et al. (2012) identified 7 low frequency SNPs at 8q24.21 that were strongly associated with glioma risk (p = 1 x 10(-25) to 1 x 10(-14)). The most strongly associated SNP, rs55705857G, remained highly significant after individual adjustment for the other top 6 SNPs and the 2 SNPs identified by Shete et al. (2009), rs4295627 and rs891835.

Homozygous deletion in CDKN2A is detectable in approximately 50% of tumors (Cancer Genome Atlas Research Network, 2008, Parsons et al., 2008), and loss of expression is linked to poor prognosis.

At age 3 years a stage 3 Wilms tumor was removed. At 9 years of age he developed seizures, and glioblastoma multiforme was detected.

      Glioma refers to a type of brain tumor that develops from the glial cells, which are specialized cells that surround and support neurons (nerve cells) in the brain. (2002) studied genetic linkage in 15 familial glioma pedigrees ascertained through patients operated on at Tampere University Hospital and drawn from an area of 1 million inhabitants in western Finland. They hypothesized that the patients might carry the same low penetrance susceptibility allele. Pannu et al. (2002) used a 2-stage strategy for gene mapping. A genome screen in 4 families revealed 4 areas of interest; additional markers in these regions provided evidence of significant linkage to chromosome 15q23-q26.3 with a maximum nonparametric linkage score of 3.35 with marker D15S130. Investigation of all 15 glioma families by association analysis (haplotype pattern mining) and through use of the transmission-disequilibrium test gave further evidence of significant association/transmission distortion at the same 15q locus.

      Overview Hirschsprung's (HIRSH-sproongz) disease is a condition that affects the large intestine (colon) and causes problems with passing stool. The condition is present at birth (congenital) as a result of missing nerve cells in the muscles of the baby's colon. Without these nerve cells stimulating gut muscles to help move contents through the colon, the contents can back up and cause blockages in the bowel. A newborn who has Hirschsprung's disease usually can't have a bowel movement in the days after birth. In mild cases, the condition might not be detected until later in childhood.

      Hirschsprung disease (HSCR) is a congenital intestinal motility disorder that is characterized by signs of intestinal obstruction due to the presence of an aganglionic segment of variable extent in the terminal part of the colon. Epidemiology HSCR has an estimated annual incidence of 1/5,000 births. Short segment HSCR is more frequent in males. Clinical description HSCR generally manifests shortly after birth with symptoms of lower intestinal obstruction such as failure to pass meconium within the first 48 hours of life, abdominal pain, constipation, progressive abdominal distention, vomiting, and occasionally diarrhea. Rarely, it presents later in childhood with symptoms of severe constipation and failure to thrive. HSCR can also be associated with additional anomalies such as sensorineural hearing loss (neurologic Waardenburg-Shah syndrome), limb anomalies (Bardet-Biedl syndrome), intellectual deficit (Mowat-Wilson syndrome), central alveolar hypoventilation (Haddad syndrome), or medullary thyroid carcinoma (multiple endocrine neoplasia syndrome type 2B).

    • Lung Adenocarcinoma GARD
      Lung adenocarcinoma is a cancer that occurs due to abnormal and uncontrolled cell growth in the lungs. It is a subtype of non-small cell lung cancer that is often diagnosed in an outer area of the lung. Early lung cancers may not be associated with any signs and symptoms. As the condition progresses, affected people can experience chest pain, a persistent cough, fatigue, coughing up blood, loss of appetite, unexplained weight loss, shortness of breath, and/or wheezing. The underlying cause of lung adenocarcinoma is generally unknown; however, risk factors for developing a lung cancer include smoking; exposure to secondhand smoke and other toxic chemicals; a family history of lung cancer; previous radiation treatment to the chest or breast; and HIV infection .
